We are halfway through winter and Matariki (Pleiades) has returned to grace our beautiful night sky. There is still time for that winter getaway and Taupo is the perfect spot. Snow-capped mountains and the glistening waters of Lake Taupo create one of the best views that New Zealand has to offer.
For a bit of adventure, Mt Ruapehu has three different ski areas: Whakapapa, Turoa and Tukino.
· Whakapapa is situated on the North Western side of Ruapehu and boasts 44km of slopes. It has a large separate field dedicated for beginners and children. Almost half of the ski fields are at an intermediate level and a quarter cater to advanced skiers.
· Turoa is situated on the South Western slopes of Ruapehu and boasts the nation’s longest vertical drop of 722m. From the highest lifted point in New Zealand, you will get to enjoy epic panoramic views of the North Island.
· Tukino is situated on the Eastern slopes of Ruapehu and boasts 170 hectares of ski area. Due to the lack of crowds, it has a more personal feel, with lessons available for all levels of skiers. It is also sheltered from the Westerly winds.
When the day is over, take advantage of the geothermal hotspots in Taupo and enjoy a soothing warm soak, while gazing at the stars on a crisp winter’s evening.
For a more leisurely activity, take a self-guided meander through the hidden valley of the Orakei Korako geothermal attraction. You are sure to be amazed at its beauty and wonder.
There is never a shortage of things to do in friendly Taupo, with its trendy boutique shops, art galleries, cafes, and restaurants.
Our Waterpark is waiting for you to relax and enjoy being surrounded by waterfalls and lush landscaping.
As the most luxurious accommodation on offer at Taupo DeBretts Spa Resort, our Lake Villas will not disappoint. With spectacular views across Lake Taupo and the mountains beyond, this is a stunning option. Add a bit of wow factor to your life this winter!
